The locals call it "Mosi-oa-Tunya," meaning "The Smoke that Thunders." More than twice the size of Niagara, this is the largest curtain of falling water on earth plunging 100 meters into a narrow chasm of basalt rock. The fine spray rises like a cloud across the bushveld, tossing rainbows hundreds of feet into the air. The only evidence of man in this pristine environment is a paved path through the luxuriant rain forest up to Livingstone Island where Dr. Livingstone had his first sighting before naming it after his queen. Getting wet is a guarantee, so umbrellas and raincoats are essential! The path leads across a small suspension bridge over a gorge and guides you through the sprays being thrown 1000 ft. into the air by the crashing Zambezi—an astonishing experience of the full might of nature.
